Subject: RESPONSE: CASE OF DR.SHAZIA KHALID AND PAKISTAN

Dear Mansoor Hassan,

Thank you for contributing to an overly reported sensational news piece and your analysis. It's ok to discuss the case itself and analyse it but the flaw in it is that you dragged the whole country and challenged its law and order, safety within, and its political topology based on one mere case. We all know this case has political seeds and will eventually serve someone's political or monetary purposes.

No country is perfect. I see you live in Manchester, England. If we start picking on your home country's incidents, I can prove and analyse it to be a barbaric and medieval England. Here is a glimpse of why I say this:

Mother 'raped by two constables'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4288117.stm

Care worker 'raped two patients'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4285321.stm

Footballer in court to deny rape

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4284865.stm

Teenager abducted and gang raped

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4262721.stm

'Tattooed' attacker rapes woman

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/4283655.stm

Man jailed for child rape attempt

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/4274037.stm

Child was 'battered on banisters'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/4288249.stm

Man murdered in street shooting http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4286439.stm

Arrests in double murder inquiry

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/4283463.stm

... and all this is from one source and goes as far back as only one week of news. You may discuss the people and the case but do not take the whole country to trial. Pakistan has lots to offer and is a very important country in the world. We are very well aware of Britain's divide and rule politics, manipulative behaviour and their history. Also when we see the crown jewels on Queen, we know how we were robbed and how arrogant are the thieves to show it off in public.

Pakistanis in the US, around the world and within Pakistan love their country dearly and will make sure that no one tries to harm them. Your article would have carried weight only if it showed the sincerity and not propoganda against Pakistan.

Cheers !

Why is perfection expected of Pakistan? Rape is not a Pakistani invention. It is fairly common all round the world and takes place at the drop of a hat in Europe and America. The Sui case is sub-judice, so until it is proved or disproved in the courts of law nothing can be said about it. Some people have tried to politicize it. Yes, there are cover-ups and attempts at intimidating victims. But can you cite any place which is free of this sort of thing? The question is, there is crime everywhere, why is Pakistan singled out when something like this happens?

3-Having women in the Iraqi parliament is no guarantee of equality for women. As a matter of fact there is a disturbing trend among Muslim women who insist they have equal rights under Shariah even in the face of glaring inequalities both theoretically and in practice. Female Muslim apologists such as Farhat Hashmi and Ingrid Matteson have huge followings even among women who consider themselves "western educated". They are not willing to challenge the status quo at all.

The article by Mansoor Hassan about the three young rape victims is heart-breaking. I am grateful to him for the coverage.

Farzana.
